Arilan might well come to like this place. The Weyr was huge, but still almost empty. It clearly needed people and dragons to fill it. Hopefully, there would be more dragons soon. He wasn't sure he wanted to end up basically a drudge for the Weyr, but then.
He could always leave. He would be welcome with the clan no matter what, no matter how many Turns he was away. They had made that clear to him. That and the fact that he was to come show off his dragon once it was old enough. He'd even promised to give people rides...
...if he had a dragon. There was a green flying overhead. He glanced up at her. Pretty, pretty dragon, he thought, and he waved cheerfully.

Andol still felt his nervousness he wondered why he had even come. Everyone and everything here where so new and he was never a person who got used to change quickly. Change in fact usually bothered him. He looked down at Iron whom he was carrying. He had noticed that he had been clinging to Iron alot ever sense he had got here. He guessed that it was because Iron was the only thing familiar to him around here. He saw this boy as walked along who was waving to something. Andol stopped and wondered if he should talk to him. He then pushed that thought form his mind saying to himself No No I normally don't should not start now. He just stood looking at Iron in a moment of indecision.

Arilan turned and saw the other boy. "Hey," he greeted, cheerfully. He needed to get to know some people around here. The kid had a firelizard, too. He should get himself one of those.
With all of the beaches, they should be relatively common around here. The kid's wariness, of course, went right over his head for right now.

Andol saw the boy approached him and say hi. He then held Iron tighter to his chest and backed away a bit. He wanted to just leave and run away, but he knew that would seem odd and that it would be rude if he did not say anything. So he kept his vision focused down on Iron thinking Ok you can do this just say something it is not that hard He then said in a stammering slow voice as though he was struggling to get the words out " Hi M-y n-ame i-s And-ol."

Arilan blinked. "I don't bite. Or eat firelizards," he added, trying to lighten the mood.
Some people might want to, some thought the little things were pests. But they were too cute to be really mad with. "Are you a...candidate?" His eyes flicked to Andol's knot. Hopefully a dragon would help the guy with his confidence.

Andol kept wondering why was he still standing here? Why had he not gone away? He kept worrying hoping that this would all be over in a few mintues, but at he knew that while this person was trying to talk to him that he had to talk back or else he would become more isolated and never be able to have anybody who was remotly a friend. He then repiled to the boy in his stammering voice " Y-es I a-m." He did not really want to say much it was all he could really get out.

Arilan nodded. "Me too." He felt uncomfortable, as if he was putting pressure on this boy, but if he backed away...he wanted friends.
Then again, did he want a friend who didn't really want to hang out with him? Clearly, Andol was painfully, painfully shy. He finally sort of looked away. "I'm sorry."

Andol then looked at the boy realizing that he had made the boy feel uncomfrontable. He rellay did not mean to it was just that he was a shy person, but he did not want to put some off because of the fact of his own shyness. So he made himself look up and he and said " N-o do-nt wor-ry i-t ju-st ta-kes me a lo-ng ti-me to w-ar-m u-p t-o p-eo-pl-e."

Arilan nodded. "I can kind of tell...it's okay. You're not the first horribly shy person I've met."
He paused, then asked the most harmless question he could think of. "What's your firelizard's name?"
It was a pretty....no, handsome...little thing.

Andol looked at the boy the down at Iron and thought At least that is a subject that makes me happy. He clung tighter to his firelizard. He then looked up at the other boy and got up the nerve to talk again and said " Hi-s n-ame i-s Iron. H-e h-as awa-ys be-en m-y on-ly fr-ie-nd re-all-y." Andol then thought for a second wondering what the boys name was so he asked him " S-o wh-ats yo-ur na-me?"

"Arilan," the boy supplied. "And I hear they make good friends, been thinking I might try and get my hands on one myself."
He glanced at the sky for a moment...was that another dragon up there? No, it was a wild firelizard, who chittered down at them and then winked out, perhaps afraid to approach Iron with the humans there.

Andol still feeling his nervousness looked back down again knowing that he should not be so afraid. That Arilan was a nice person. He looked up at what the other boy was looking up and saw the firelizard this made him smile, but the smile disappeared as quickly as the firelizard had gone in between. He looked back at Arilan and said in his stammering voice " Yea-h yo-u woul-d l-ike on-e a-s I sai-d Iron ha-s be-en a grea-t fr-iend t-o me fo-r a lo-ng time. P-ulli-ing me ou-t of great s-adness and hel-ping b-e happ-y wh-en I ne-eded hi-m."

Arilan smiled, "Yeah, I can see how one would cheer somebody up. Their antics are amusing."
A dragon would be an even better friend, of course, but with the way things were going...would that dragon ever lay eggs? He had to doubt it, but he had come here on that thin gamble, and because it would add to the experiences of his life. If he went home empty handed, then so be it.

Andol knew the boy was right that Iron always knew what to do to make him happy. Iron then looked up at Andol and began to rub his head aginst Andols chest. Then all a sudden Iron took off out of Andols hands. Andol tried to grab him out of the air, but missied. Iron then flew over and landed on Arilan's shoulders and began to rub his head aginst Arilan's cheek. Andol knew what Iron was trying to do which was get him to talk to someone, but what had suprised him was that Iron had never does this before. Andol knew that Iron knew that talking to people made him happy he just never showed it. He then had to work up more nerve just to talk without Iron he said " Y-eah th-er-e fu-n, bu-t I ca-me he-re be-ca-use I th-ogh-t a dragon w-oul-d b-e be-tt-er."

Arilan laughed a bit. "Hello, Iron," he said as the firelizard greeted him affectionately. "And I agree. A dragon is the best friend somebody can have."
He hoped his dragon would be outgoing and fun loving. But maybe a quieter type would suit him better.
